The North Face Apparel team brought me on board as a presentation designer and colorist to help solidify a new perspective on color for the brand, and to help form processes within their newly formed color team.
COLOR FORECAST MOOD BOARDS
As a part of the initial research of seasonal color at the North Face I created unique layouts that give a sense of each color, and how they're currently being used in fashion and retail markets. Inspiration was also taken from contemporary art, the outdoors and other natural environments.
Using the mood boards I created as inspiration, I colored some initial CADs layered into outfits for the apparel designers to use as direction when coloring their entire line. The color palettes were selected by the color team in collaboration with the apparel designers.
I applied iconic North Face color, detailing and logos to a number of illustrations by Ricardo Fumanal to give a sense of how a full outfit might look. The illustrations were used for presentation purposes.
Using the North Face's existing prints I was able to create a number of colorways inspired by camo and florals. Applying the prints to illustrations gives them a 3-dimensional effect to see how they might look in production blocked with different colors and trims.
